Images are one of the main problems with pages running slow, how many and
what size do you have is what you need to look at.

Yes, images are terrible for us dial-up users. I maintain a site that has
church newsletter done in publisher with lots of pictures on it. I converted
it to a pdf file. I cannot download it without problems but husband at work
with DSL can. I tried to optimized the pictures, but then the photos end up
looking like those video shots on the news where they don't want you to
recognize anyone! Can't get away with that.

Maybe someday we will get DSL!

You're missing a verb there!

"If you are a good imaging program"?
"If you rock out with a good imaging program"?

;o)

Anyway, using an imaging program to downsample the images ins one option.
Alternatively, you can use a PDF file with different compression options.

I like Adobe PE. I tried to optimize the pictures but the photos were to
numerous and big that it did not help. I just gave up.
