How can I keep the format change in a publisher calendar?

I create a calendar for school and divide a cell, shading the half and enter
text. When I come back to that month the shading is gone and the text is
overflowing. How can I stop that from happening?

What version Publisher? I can't duplicate this. Are you using a wizard or creating
the table manually? Are you manually dividing the cell or using the cell diagonals
dialog under the table menu?
