how can i open powerpoint files in XP that were saved in 98SE

i have a number of powerpoint files that were saved in windows 98SE and then
copied across to XP. When I try to open them in XP now it says part of the
file is missing. Seems to effect all the powerpoint files i saved.
Does anyone know a way to solve this?

Please make sure that all the service packs for the computer with Office
(PowerPoint) XP/2003 are loaded.

Post back if applying the service packs does not fix the problem.

Thanks for that but I have now applied SP2 and numerous further updates and
am now up to date. However the problem persists. Any idea what I can do?
