How can I retrieve a notebook that simply disappeared?

In my OneNote I had a Personal Notebook and a Work Notebook. Suddenly, the
Work Notebook disappeared. It's shows that it's empty. What could have
happened? And how can I retrieve it?

click open> open notebook
all notebooks appear as empty folders. I think mine has a folder for
One note notebooks in my 'my documents folder'. All the notebooks are
there as empty folders. I click on the notebook folder, it opens but
it is empty. i click open and the notebook opens.

I've had to use the latest backup. What I'm curious about now is how an
entire notebook with dozens of sections becomes "empty." I don't think I had
pushed the wrong button; but if I did, I'd like to know what button that was
so I can avoid it in the future.

OneNote notebooks are not emptied by themselves.
You must have done something wrong.

I don't
think I had pushed the wrong button; but if I did, I'd like to know
what button that was so I can avoid it in the future.

There is no such button.
It seems that there was a series if actions performed by you.
