how can you create a dependency on a future task?

in my project plan, I need a task to occur 7 days prior to another task - it
is not dependent upon something being completed, but dependent on the
potential day something in the future will be completed. ie a dress
rehearsal 1 week before an actual go live. the go live date is dependent
upon many other tasks, but the dress rehearsal is dependent more on the date
of the go-live rather than any of the predecessor tasks of the go
live....make sense? Anyway - is there a way to create a future dependency
without setting a specific date for the task - we are still working with the
plan and do not want to put a solid date in for any tasks?

You would make the go-live task the predecessor of the dress rehearsal
task, SS, with a lag of -7 days.

will play around a bit more - this is my first real experience with project
and i am learning as i go - thanks for your help

darci,
The most frequent cause of circular relationships is when the user links
to a Summary Line. Links to Summary Lines should be avoided. At best
they generate confusing results and at worst, circular relationships.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like there is also a link between the finish of the dress rehearsal
(or there is a chain of tasks with links between the rehersal and the
performance) and the Performance date. is that right? if that is right
then remove the direct links (or one in the chain) between these tasks and
then the start to st art that Sarah mentioned will work as planned.

the key is for there to be no other links
