How do connect shared resource pool and mpp for reports?

Julie

We have a master consolidated project plan that uses a comon shared resource
pool so we can discuss and share our resources. We are trying to do a report
for the developers showing them all the projects they are assigned to, but it
doesn't work because if I do it in the resource pool, it does't know about
the tasks and if I do it in the consolidated mpp, it doesn't know about the
people.

Any suggestions?

Hi Julie,

How did you create the master project?

If you have multiple Project files attached to a shared resource pool file
and open the pool with the third option: "Open resource pool read-write and
all other sharer files into a new master project..." the newly created
project is a consolidated project file and the information you seek will
show in the Resource Usage view in the newly created file.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I tried doing as you suggested (choosint the third option for the resource
pool), but then I just get the hourglass and none of the MS projects end up
responding. Any other thoughts?

thanks!

Hi Julie,

It sounds like there may be some corruption in the pool file. This is
usually created when multiple copies of the same file are attached to the
pool or sharer files get deleted, or people have stored the sharer files on
their local drive not accessible to you through the pool.

Can you open the pool file with the second option, then go to Tools >
Resource Sharing > Share Resources. This should list all project files that
the pool file thinks it is sending resources to. You may have to break the
link to all sharer files, and re-link or possibly go so far as to use a
backup copy.

Let us know the results of viewing the sharer files through the pool option.

Before we installed project server we had multiple plans linked to the 1
resource pool, and delivered weekly updates to the developers to show what
tasks they were supposed to be doing. We used the resource usage view, which
groups tasks by person, and then added a field project. To get a task list
for an individual we had to filter for each person separately, and turn the
view into a pdf. It was cumbersome but passed the time on a Monday morning
Hope this helps
