how do I add a delay to the entire project

i am in the middle of a project and have had the client delay some of our
on-site startups on a couple of occasions. I am trying to add manual delays
to the entire project (rather than just the task) to push out the end date of
the project. I can't figure out a way to do this other than to take all 400
remaining tasks and make them successors to the one I have delayed

That is generally the best way. The remaining 400 tasks should have
dependencies anyway so it shouldn't be too much trouble. If they have no
dependencies, then you are not off to a good start.

i do have lots of dependencies already for each site as needed, but what I
was hoping to do was to add this delay in the project and slide everything
out - that way it is very apparent to the customer that their decision to
delay a startup has pushed everything out a week, even though not all of the
400 remaining tasks are depended on this one getting completed.

If there is no way to do this that's OK - i just figured there had to be
some way to add a delay into the project and have it move everything after it.

You could set the status date to equal the date the work will resume for
this project and then hit the 'Reschedule' button on the Tracking Toolbar.
This will move the unfinished portions of all tasks so that they start
after the new status date.
