How do I auto route to another web page

Google has "remembered" an obsolete web page of ours and I want to force that
reference to our home page. How do I do that

Place a page with the same file name as the old page on the server that contains something like:

This page has been updated, you will be redirected to it in 10 seconds,.

Also maybe have a clickable link to the new page.

Then place this between the head tags in html / code view:

<META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh CONTENT="10; URL=newpage.htm">

Obviously, change newpage.htm to the file name of the new page.
You can also make it an absolute link by using:

<META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh CONTENT="10; URL=http://www.sitename.com/newpage.htm">

This is indeed the traditional method of doing it. But consider what happens
if the visitor gets to the destination page, and decides to push the
browser's back button. Oops - they get redirected again, and again, etc.

A much better way to do it is with a server-side redirect, but that is (as
they say) beyond the scope of this discussion. Why am I mentioning it? I
dunno.... 8)

Murray,

Actually, you can set the URL so that it is not included in the browser history.

Sure - it does require javascript, however. A server redirect is still the
optimal way. Your mileage may vary.... 8)
