I am putting in duration in hours and divided the tasks into subtasks and
summary tasks. but the summary task is not showing the total of the subtasks
duration. how do I add the duration of all the subtasks and fill up the same
in duration field for the summary task?

Hi SV,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You can't! Duration, by definition, is the working time between the task
start time and its finish time. The Duration of a Summary is thus the
working time between the first task and the last task, and can only equal
the sum of the sub-tasks if their precedences are linked in a single chain.
You cannot therefore enter a Duration of a Summary task as this will always
be calculated for you by Project.
