How do I cancel a task without deleting it?

I'm trying to cancel a task in a Project. The thing is that it is not going
to happen but I don't want to delete it 'cause we're already on the run with
the Project.

Thanks

ABA,
"Canceling" a task means different things to different people. For
example, was the task started and then shut off or was it never started.
Does it have resources assigned?

If the task was never started but resources were assigned, first remove
the assignments so they are not "tied up" on a dead task. Then mark the
task as 100% complete and get on with the rest of the plan. If the task
was started and then cut off, I assume some progress was already shown.
Display the Actual Finish date field and enter the date the task was
cancelled. This will capture sunk cost and allow you to effectively get
on with the rest of the plan.

Hope this helps.

you could zero out the work, set the duration to 0, set milestone OFF, clear
the resources, then set the predecesor/successor relationships up so that the
task is bypassed. That way your critcal path would remain the same but the
task would have no effect on duration or work calculations, nor would it show
up in a milestone chart.
