How do I change a file from read-only?

I have a publisher file that is read-only. I am the author, but I can't
figure out how to change it so that I can change the document. I have gone
under the properties tab but I can't access the attributes.

Is the file on a CD?

CDs are a write-once read-many medium. That means you can't change the
properties of files or alter the files themselves once they're on there.

Copy to your hard drive, remove the read-only attribute, edit, then burn
back to the same or a different CD (depending on how the CD was burned in
the first place).
