How do I change close options?

sWhen I have multiple files open in Word or Excel and I click on the X it
closes the entire program and all the other open files. Can I change the
setting so that only that file is closed when I click on the X, not the
program, if multiple files are open? My co-workers works that way and mine
does not.

You need to click on X just below the blue bar. Normally you have two
Xs button - one for the main program and one for the document. If you
want to test this out, click on the middle icon (- box X) say box to
minimize the window and continue doing so to see all the windows
minimized one by one.
