How do i convert entire document to Grayscale?

G

Greg

I have a publisher file (multiple pages) that is full of color text, clipart,
and other various things. How would i convert the entire thing at once to
grayscale? I dont want to have to click each indivitual item and change to
grayscale, i know how to do that. I also know how to change the whole
document from RGB to CMYK but I cant find any way to change it all to
grayscale. How do I do this?

G

Greg

im aware of that but thats not what i need. i need to have the document in
actual grayscale first.

I tried that and converted the PDf to grayscale with the "Print
Production/Convert Colors" option in ACrobat Pro but I cant seem to do it
without it putting a very small screen on everrything, including solid black
text.

May I ask why? Just curious.

I have a document that has some pages CMYK and others need to be Grayscale.
The printer we use (suprised me too) said that the pages that need to be
printed as grayscale need to be grayscale. I can convert to PDF and convert
those to grayscale but it puts a slight screen over everything, even what is
suppose to be solid black and i cant have that. I have a question on the
Adobe forum asking about that also but not getting any response on why that
is yet so trying to find alternative ways of doing it pre-PDF too...I also
know this will be something i need to figure out anyway with Publisher

I wouldn't know how do begin doing what you need to do. I've never mixed the
two formats. And if I wanted grayscale, I just printed it that way.

Could you save the page as a .jpg then create a new page and import the .jpg
into the new pub page and then choose the greyscale option for the whole pic?

The problem with that solution is Greg has multiple pages.

And that JPEG will kill much of his data. And that he'll be unable to
edit any text on that page ever again.

For images this might be reasonably simple to do with a macro. Text
would be more challenging.

Couldn't you just break out the grayscale and create a separate document
from the cmyk? (gray doc 1, cmyk doc 2)
I did just that last year for a booklet all four covers were 4 color the
inside were grayscale.

that could be a possibility though, preferably a TIF over a JPG though. I
dont see how you save as either one though

Sure.
Make two backup copies of the current pub file. Name one;
xxxx-grayscale.pub and the other xxxx-colorcmyk.pub. In xxxx.grayscale.pub
remove anything needing cmyk (convert to grayscale)...do the opposite for
the xxxx.-colorcmyk.pub (remove the grayscale stuff).

Not sure why your printer is having trouble though.

The original file leave alone.

File > Save As > Save as type = TIF (or PNG - I agree about avoiding JPEG).

Requires Publisher 2003 or later to get a usable resolution.

Have you tried tools/commercial printing/color printing, check single color
and set to black (if it doesn't default to blk)?
