How do I delete duplicate .pst files

C

Chuck

I just sent this message to the Outlook General Questions group, so I'm not
sure I'll get an answer.

Like the other, apparently more experienced users, my new Outlook 2003 shows
two identical .pst files. I am not an experienced user, so the answer that I
"didn't migrate my .pst file correctly," or some such, is no help. I saw no
eidence of instrusctions on how to migrate profiles when I set up Outlook,
and apparently neither did several more experienced users. A glitch like
this should throw up a big red warning flag.

I got a new WinXP/Office 2003 computer directly from Dell. I set up
Windows, then set up Outlook with my two simple email accounts. Then I
copied my .pst file from my old Win2000/Office2000 computer (where I never
had this problem). Now I have the duplicate profiles. "Remove this folder"
is grayed out, and anyway, deleting one subfolder deletes it in both profiles.

All I want Outlook to do is let me have two email accounts, one for work and
one for home. I want separate in/out/trash boxes for each. Is that so hard?
I don't want to uninstall and reinstall, or delete profiles and somehow try
to start over. I've wasted too much time on this already. Our IT department
is several states away, and they only support Eudora. I can see why. Most
office co-workers don't have 2003 yet (I can see why), or they use Eudora,
Mozilla's Thunderbird, or worst of all, Apple computers. Those people in
particular are very scornful and are getting a big laugh out of this.

This is much harder than it should be (whine whine). Now that I've got the
problem, I need a simple, step by step procedure to get rid of one of the
profiles. My old computer is gone, and so is the old profile that was on it.
I'll use a whole different program for my home email if that's what it
takes, but that seems silly given Outlook's obvious sophistication. Judging
from the number of more experienced users who have this problem, there should
be a simple solution. Thanks for any simple, practical help anyone can offer.

Chuck

Idroped today looking for a solution to the same problem - I've installed
office 2003 on a friends system and installed their pst file from Office
2002. I've also reviewed several documents pertaining to 2 pst files and
have not found the magic one.

Thanks for the interest. Think we can agree this is not an isolated problem.
If Microsoft were the auto industry, they'd have to issue a recall, or
provide a free fix to all registered users. Keep looking and hopefully among
the community of average, everyday users, we'll get his perplexing problem
figured out.

The Aryson Split PST Software is a tool that helps break large Outlook PST files into smaller ones. It can split a single or multiple large PST files based on options like date, size, folder, or sender's email. With this tool, users can easily divide a big PST file with emails, contacts, calendars, journals, notes, and tasks into smaller files.

Steps to Split PST Files without Outlook:

  1. Install Aryson Split PST Software and run it as Administrator.
  2. Click the "Add files" button and choose the PST file you want to split.
  3. Browse the selected PST files and click "Next."
  4. Choose how you want to split the PST file (by size, date, email, or folder) and click "Next."
  5. Select the features you need and set a password if required.
  6. Pick the destination folder where you want to save the new file.
  7. Click the "Split" button to successfully split the large PST file.
