How do I find a missing folder in Word?

Yesterday, I was working on a number of Word and Excel files that are part of
folders in one directory. At the end of the day, I saved the files, exited
Word and Excel, logged off and shut down the computer. This morning, I went
to return to the work I was doing yesterday and the entire directory has
disappeared.

Can anyone help me? How do I try to locate the directory? Any ideas on how
the directory could simply disappear? I'm sure there's a simple answer
(wishful thinking?) but I don't know what it is.

One way is to use the Start menu's Search > For Files or Folders item.
You can look for a file name, a folder name, or some word or phrase
that you know is in the documents.

It may help first to open Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder
Options, and make sure the box for "Show hidden files and folders" is
checked.

Thanks very much. By running the search as you suggested, I located a few
files from the missing folder. When I opened the file, I was able to
backtrack and discovered that the entire folder had somehow moved into
another folder. All of the contents were located!

Excellent! Glad I could help.

The most common way this happens is a badly aimed drag-n-drop in
Explorer or in an Open or Save dialog.
