How do I hyperlink to a folder on my computer?

J

Jenny

I have been trying to add a hyperlink to my website for days. I have used the
help section and everything. I have copied and pasted the .avi to my web
folders then proceed to hyperlink. It totally works from the preview
section..it brings up the media player and runs the .avi. I save then
publish. But when I go to the website, I click the link, it takes almost 2
minutes doing a download, and then can't find the file. Can someone PLEASE
help me!

Open your local web in FP
(or open you online Web in FP)
File import the AVI file
Create your link to it in a page
Then Publish your site (if you opened the local version)

Sorry guys! Misread that. When in Frontpage..I chose hyperlink..then I chose
the file I want from what I imported into my web folder and this is what it
puts out

.../../../All Users/Documents/My Videos/Sam's Demo Team.avi

I know this is obviously wrong but I don't know what it should be.

It means you only had a page open for editing and not the web site.
Always launch FrontPage, then click File > open Web ( open site in FP 2003 ) and then open a page
for editing.

You're trying to open your local folder?
.../../../All Users/Documents/My Videos/Sam's Demo Team.avi

Where is the link created? On your local system? You want to
put the file on your webserver, then use an appropriate path to
open it up.

"http://www.websitename.com/videos/Sam's Demo Team.avi"

You might want to use %20 in that link to represent the spaces...
"http://www.websitename.com/videos/Sam's Demo Team.avi"

You can then open it off the website, create a Favorites link to it
inside of your browser, and open it whenever you feel like.

If you're creating an HTML page to link to it, AND the html page
is in the same folder as the .avi, then you can create the link to it,
by using syntax similar to:

<a href="Sam's%20Demo%20Team.avi">Sam's Demo Team</a>

If the file is in a videos folder off another folder the link would be
similar to:
<a href="videos/Sam's%20Demo%20Team.avi">Sam's Demo Team</a>
