how do I import/copy tasks from one project file to another?

I have two complete file schedule files (tasks, notes, predecessors,
constaints). How do I get some of one file into the other without messing up
everything?

thanks in advance...

Hi,

I don't know what you mean by messing up, or what exactmy you're afraid of.
You can copy entire tasks by selecting the ID, copy, then paste in the new
environment.
Predecessor IDs will be restricted to those between copied tasks.

what I should have mentioned is I'm replacing existing info. I'm able to copy
everything but the predecessors, once they go in the dates get messed up. I'm
doing something wrong?

Hi,

Could you be more specific on "messed up"?
Only teh links beytween copied taks are retained.
Is that what you mean?

I'm not sure about any previous versions to MSP 2003... change "Autolink
inserted or moved tasks" within the "Schedule tab" in options. This should
do the trick. You can test this by comparing what happens when you copy
tasks with the option selected versus a copy of tasks with the option
unselected.

Another thought, you might want to turn leveling off until you have your
resources assignments in order. Make sure you save a copy of the file then
back it up, BEFORE you turn leveling back on.

Hope this helps.

Good catch, Glenn, I dodn't think of the autolink.
Still, I do not think one needs a backup before leveling, because clear
leveling really clears it all.
Greetings,
