How do I organise 90 tasks in a 5 day period?

My team of 6 people has to complete 90 tasks in 5 working days. The
allocation of the task should be so that each resource takes about 40 hours
to complete all tasks. It does not matter to the project in what order each
of them complete their tasks. It also does not matter if they are not doing
any tasks on any particular day, all tasks need to be finished at the end of
the 5th day.

How can I realise this in project. If I put in a duration of a day or less
project signals that all tasks need to be done on the first day and obviously
the resources are then displayed as overworked. If I put in that each task
only takes x% of a resources time and I then put into project when it was
actually started and actually finished Project doesn't accept the actual work
done on the task, and when I enter the actual work done on the task, it
changes the duration again.

So how can I find a better resolution for this in Project?

thanks a million!

Work=Duration x Untis, pick two. The third is calculated and you can
rearrange the equation any way you like.

Select Window/Split. At the bottom pane you will see a drop down for Task
Type. this is the value project will hold fixed while the others vary.

In "equal terms" you have 90 tasks, 6 heads and 5 days. There is 6*40=480
manhours available. 480/90=about 5 hours per task.

This could be 1 person for 5 hours, 2 people for 2.5 hours .... 5 people for
1 hour. At some point there is a problem (9 women do not have a baby in 1
month).

5hr/8hr available makes your units about 63% for assignment purposes. If
you make it less, the task will take longer than a day. More than 63% and
your task will take less than a day.

You need to decide how much work is required for each task. If you make it
"fixed work" the duration will vary as you assign more resources. Assign the
Work in the Work column for each task. The total should be 480 hours. Now
assign your resources (Bob, Ted, Carol, Alice, ...) and their units % if
applicable. Since they can only work 1 task at a time (I assume), then
units=100% and duration falls where it may.

Since there is no relationship among the tasks, then project will "left
load" all of them. That is to be expected, and all your resources are
overloaded.

Select Tools/Level Resources... entire project, level now. See what that
does for you.

Resources may be manually adjusted for assigned hours in the Task Usage or
Resource Usage views.

Gee my math is sure wrong... 6*40=240
240/90=2.6667 (2.7 hours)
2.66666/8=33% untis.

And now for some coffee to wake up before I go to the office
