How do I retieve a deleted Word document?

I deleted several word documents in error. When I deleted them a prompt
asked if I wanted them to go into the recycle bin. I clicked "yes", but they
aren't in there.

Once eliminated from the recycle bin, the disc space they occupied is free
for re-use. Provided it has not already been over-written a file undelete
utility (of which there are many) would be needed to attempt recovery.
