The site says Office 2007 only. It's Microsoft's site and they set the
rules. You can try downloading the compatibility pack and then saving that
document as a .docx file. That should meet their requirments. (Please
remember that I am not a Microsoft employee and although that seems like an
acceptable alternative, I could be wrong.)

As noted on the submission page:

Please make sure your file: Is created in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Access, or Publisher 2007

If you aren't using Office 2007 then unfortunately you can't submit
templates. The Community Submission is a feature for Office 2007 users.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email cannot be acknowledged.

I don't know and I don't have the ability to test it right now since I have
Office 2007 installed. All I know is Community Template submission, and
downloads, are for intended for Office 2007 users that pass the Genuine
Advantage Validation. IOW, a benefit for legally licensed Office 2007 users.

Okay. I thought maybe you might have some insight there. I've only ever
submitted one template and since I'd done it on my home computer it was with
2007.

I don't know about Word doc(x)/dot(x) files, but I sure wouldn't do it with
a PowerPoint template. There are huge differences in the way slide masters
and layouts work in 2007 and 2003, and they don't transfer well back and
forth as a template. In PPT, templates intended for use in 2007 really
should be created in 2007, and likewise, templates intended for use in 2003
and 2002 should be created in either of those versions, and 2000/97 in one
of those versions.

Just thought I'd toss this out there for general info.
