How do I set a Project task to run on a specific day of the week?

Can a task be scheduled to start the second Sunday after a predecessor
completes, or the 3rd Wednesday of the month following completion of its
predecessor?

From the 1st taks to second task: SS-with a lag or you can also use FS-with a
lag.
If he 1st task slips the 2nd task start date is changed with a FS-LAG tie.

Catfish - I don't think that will totally solve the problem since lag can
only be set to "days" I think he wants a "Variable Lag" so it will force a
task to start on a "Wednesday" or "Two Sundays after I finish the predessors"

There may be a way to do this as a recurring task. Recurring tasks can be
set to "the 2nd Tuesday of the Month" or "Every third Sunday", etc. Try
setting a recurring task with only one instance of recurrance. Then, just
add a predessor. However, I don't think Project is quite that smart... if
you establish a recurring task on a given day of the week, it appears it just
sets one of the standard start constraints on the task. Give it a try.

You could create a task calendar for the successor that only allows the
task to be done on, say Sunday, in your first example. The create a FS
link from the pred task to it and put in a lag of 7 days if you wanted
it to start the second Sun after the Pred completes. Your second
example would be somewhat harder to create. Not sure how easy it would
be even with a macro, since I don't recall a "third Wed of the month"
capability in Project.

Hope this helps in your world.

Jim, lags can be set in days, hours and even minutes.
A Reaccuring task may work better than a lag.

Hi,

Yes. Make a calendar (Tools, Change working time, New) with only those days
as working days, and assign this calendar to the task (Task Information,
Advanced tab, Calendar)
No need for lags

I'm not clear on this, Jan. How does doing it this way make his task
occur on the second Sunday after the pred finishes?

As usual, you're right, Dave.
The guy needs both a lag and a task calendar.
Good catch, sorry.

You've caught my mistakes often enough! It all comes out even in the
end.
