How do I set a reminder in Project 2003?

I want to be reminded to perform a task (call a subcontractor) in advance of
that persons' task starting. The time in advance would be different for each
of the contractors as their availability could vary and not all tasks need
the reminder. Therefore I can not use a custom field with a formula as, at
least as far as I can tell, it would use the same lead time and apply to all
tasks. I'm using Project 2003 Enterprise with Office 2003 and WinXP.

Thanks in advance

Hi Mike

you can use IIF statements in custom fields, however, i'ld personally be
tempted to add these "ring contractor" as tasks in the project - creating
one for each task where it is relevant and linking it appropriately.

So, if I understand what your saying is that I set an additional task, a
"ring contractor" in advance of the start of the task needing the
notification and setting the start dependency the required number of days????

Is there anyway to send an outlook task notification so that when Outlook
starts it will show a "To Do" task which is to call XXX for a start date of
YYY? Here I want the outlook to notify me or another team member not the
contractor.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,
I have a very similar question. Did this solution work for you? I was
hoping to have some sort of reminder via Project or Outlook to alert me when
of a phone call to make or a milestone is due. I have multiple projects that
I am working on, with varying due dates. I haven't been able to find a
solution.
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks,
Lisa
