How do I show multiple resources on one graph in Project?

Does anyone know of a way to be able to show more than one resource at time
on the Resource Usage graph? I have "like" labour resources assigned to
specific tasks eg labourer, boilermaker, welder, and want to be able to show
them combined on a graph to show the total required workshop force.

I'm used to exporting data into Excel from Primavera P3, but there seems to
be no similar way to even export the data from Project.

If you want to show multiple resources in the resource sheet, consider using
a combination view

To create an ad-hoc combination view

Select the Gantt chart view

Double click on the small bar in the bottom right of the screen (the bar is
between the horizontal and vertical scroll bars)

Click in the lower pane to be sure it is active (the thin left hand bar to
the side of the pane will go dark blue)

Select the resource graph

The resource graph will show all resources who have assignments in the tasks
selected in the Gantt chart above

Select tasks in the Gantt chart pane (which must be the top pane) to change
the resources displayed in the resource grpah.

I hope this helps ... let me know if you would like help to create this is a
listed view.

To Chris and Mike, thanks for the responses, both of your answers make sense
and have helped. :)

Two quick questions in relation to this...

I have used the split view of Resource Usage on top and the Resource Graph
in bottom pane.
(a) should I select all of the resource entries, or collapse the group and
just select the group heading?
(b) should I see the different resources listed in the bottom pane? I seem
to only get the "top" resource of the list.

Hi Skiffie,

a) Try it and see! Whatever is easiest for you.

b) With a split screen, the lower pane is a filter showing details of what
you select in the upper pane. In this case, right-click in a blank area of
the Resource Graph and select Bar Styles..., and you will note the left side
is for Selected Resources. So the graph will show the results of all the
resources you select. The name of the first resource is shown on the left
and you can scroll through the selected names, but this is all a bit
meaninglesss.

I'm going to go back to the original question, since the solutions provided
(while helpful) didn't really solve my problem.

I'm trying to show a single histogram that covers multiple resources at the
same time. I've changed the way I was going to assign resources since it
would have been to time consuming for someone to do the allocation, so now I
have resources (labour) per location in the workshop (i.e. the location and
resource have the same name). What I would like to see is a "stacked"
histogram so that I can see one overall resource usage graph for the entire
workshop (i.e. a total number of employees for each section or location of
the workshop, as well as an overall number of employees for the whole
workshop).

Would using resource groups (not yet set up) be a better way of managing this?
