How do I unlock a document in Word and Excel?

I am trying to type in a new document, and my computer keeps telling me that
the modification is not allowed because the document is locked. I have not
locked any of my documents. This happens in Excel and in Word. Please help!!!

If it's a trial version, your trial time is up (and you ignored the
warnings).
If it's a full version, you haven't activated it (and ignored the warnings).
