A report in Word was signed. The report was then scanned and put into
PDF format. I received the report in that format but must convert i
back to Word, which I did. Now I must add one page at the beginning o
the document but cannot figure out how! The page is completely fille
with the image of the scanned report and will not let me insert m
cursor to write or to insert a page break (or anything). Please help

Assuming that by "the page is completely filled" you mean that the image
stretches across the entire page (is not confined to the margins), then it
must be anchored to a paragraph on the page. Because it fills the page,
however, you will probably be unable to see the object anchor or paragraph
mark even if you display nonprinting characters. So try this. Click on the
image, which will display the Picture toolbar, and click on the Text
Wrapping button (dog icon). If Behind Text is not selected, select it.

Now, with nonprinting characters displayed, you should be able to see the
paragraph mark of the paragraph the image is anchored to. Even if you can't
see it, Ctrl+Home will take you to that paragraph, and you can press Enter
to insert a new paragraph above it. With any luck, when you now click on the
image, you'll see that it is anchored to the second paragraph. If the anchor
has instead moved to the new paragraph, drag it to the second paragraph.

Click in the second paragraph and press Ctrl+Enter to insert a page break
(or right-click, choose Paragraph, and, on the Line and Page Breaks tab,
check the box for "Page break before"). You should now have a new blank page
at the beginning with a single paragraph on it.

Dear Suzanne:

Thank you for your response. While I was waiting for a response,
tried another approach. I opened up a new Word document and inserted
section break. In the first section, I put the information that
needed to add to the document which consisted of a header, a footer an
a small amount of text. Then, moving to the next section, I “unlinked
the header and footer to the previous section. Then, I simply selecte
all the contents of the document that contained the scanned in report
copied it, and pasted it to “section 2” of the new document. Thi
worked pretty well except now there is a blank page every other page.
I noticed that there are those anchors. Something is pushing th
images down to cause a blank page every other page. Someone in ou
office said the blank “text boxes” of the headers and footers o
section #2 are pushing the images down but I don’t think this is th
cause of the problem.

I don’t understand what the anchors are and how they work so I guess
need to do my homework on that. I will try the methodology yo
recommend and see what happens. I’m so close!
