I have a hyperlink to a pdf file. How can I check if Acrobat is installed
before the document is opened

I know that isn't true. I have been to sights that when I click on a pdf
file, it checks for adobe and returns a page telling me that "adobe reader is
required to view this page" and with a link to adobe. Since v3 of most
browsers, there is a way to check for specific plugins.
Thank you for your reply Reed

Try Googling. Or, go back to those sites and look at their script.

I have check a number of sites, but the script is hidden. I did check google,
but came up empty. I also checked a site for pdf and went through 8000+ post.
As common as acrobat is, there has to be someone out there that knows how to
do this.
Again thank you for your reply. Reed

Is it possible that the browser does this automagically?

I far as I can tell, no. All I get when I test this, IE, Netscape, Firefox,
is a blank page, or the screen flashes, trying to popup acrobat.

Thanks for your help Reed

Well....
The only problem is that they only show for Netscape or IE, but not combined
for both types of browsers. If this is an Internal website, no problem, but
not able to control what web browser will be used, creates a problem.
Thank you for searching, I have searched and still am, for the past few days
whithout any results. I even contacted Adobe under a support contract and
there reply is that they do not assist in web page developement ? ? ? ? at
any cost.

Thanks again Reed
