How to continue numbering of heasings from one document to another

Hi,

I would like to know how to continue numnering of headings from one document
to another automatically. We can manually update the heading in File 2 to
continue from the previous heading level in File 1 by modifying the 'Start
at' value of the heading in File 2. But when I create TOC (this TOC is for
multiple files created using RD field codes) the numbering of all headings in
all the files starts with '1' instead of taking the updated heading number.
Please let me know how to tackle this so that in the TOC also I get the
heading numbers in the updated sequence.

When you create a TOC with RD fields it should reflect the contents of the
referenced files. I'm not sure why it doesn't work in your document. Perhaps
the "Automatically update document styles" option in the Templates and
Add-Ins dialog box has been activated (in one or more of the "subdocuments")?
