Were're using office 2003 and this is working for some people and not for
others.
Is there a setting to enable file in use notification and to open a file in
read only mode if someone is using it.

It would help us to know which application you are referring to and if
you would provide some additional details on what you mean by "not
working". For example do they encounter any message? Does the file
open as read only without a message?

I am having the same problem. We are running XP and Excel 2003 and the
workbook is saved to a network drive. Our users get no message and the
spreadsheet opens normally, they can edit, save etc. We need the File is
Locked error message so only one user can edit and save at a time. We used
to get this message when we were running Win2K and Office2000. This hasn't
worked since the changeover.
Thanks for all help,
