How to spread a task's duration (3hrs /day) evenly over time (6d)

MS Project 2003 I've been funded for 18 hours to manage a project that will
take place over 6 days. I want to show a line item "Project Management" for
a duration of 18hrs, but I want the bar in the bar chart to extend from the
1st day through the 6th day, with just 3 hrs assigned per day. The duration,
start, finish, fields will not cooperate. What do I need to do to model this?

Make sure that the task is not set to "Fixed Units".

Insert the amount of duration, then set the task to fixed duration. Insert
your resource, and then add the amount of work that you are going to complete.

I.e.
Duration =6d
Set to Fixed duration (not effort driven)
Insert MY NAME in the resource names column
Set work to 18 hours
This will set the resource to 38% per day or approximately 3 hours of the
required 8 hour workday.

Hope that helps,

Thomas

One way to deal with PM time in a project plan is to make a Hammock Task
which spans the start and finish of the project. But you have a specific
timeline budget which is defined to be independent of the project.

Remember the Project Triange: duration x unit x work

You have a task:

: Fixed Duration = 6d
: Work = 18h
: not effort driven

You assign yourself to the task with
: Work =18
: Project will compute units = 18/6=3 hrs/d which is 0.375 d/d

Hi,

Have you considered using a 3hr. recurring task on a daily basis for 6 days?
For this, use menu "Insert/Recurring task...", then assign the corresponding
resource(s) to each of the recurrences.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
