How to view two or more files?

If I am viewing two or more Word files, I find that there are the same
number of 'instances' of the Word program at the foot of the screen. It
would be more convenient if I had the two or more files shown within one
instance of the Word program. Can anyone tell me how to set things up so
that Word works in this way. I am using Word XP.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | uncheck the "Windows in
taskbar" box | OK.
