Hi, I am a 'Visio Professional 2002' User who did not upgrade to 'Visio
Professional 2003' re a range of Microsoft known problems in the 2003 update
re Hyperlinks that they said they would not fix till 2007 version.

I have a Visio Professional 2007 Trial version and again find that apparent
that Microsoft has once again not got things completely right re Hyperlinks
and that using the trial version I have problems with use of Hyperlinks that
are not a problem at all in 2002.

I have below listed details of my first problem which is the simplest and if
it is a problem in 'Visio Professional 2007' then for my use it would be a
show stopper till fixed.

Any help / comments would be appreciated.

Visio Professional 2007 Trial version Nos.

12. 06300. 5000
SP1 MSO 12. 06320. 5000
Version 12. 06215 1000

Action:-

On inserting a Hyperink into a flow chart shape and in the 'Dialogue' box
entering a name for the link in the 'Description' field e.g. 'Click to goto
Procedure xxx/xxxx/0568 Audit and Inspection.' On right mouse click in Visio
on the hyperlink after creating the entered link name shows correctly. Visio
dwg then saved and reopened all still fine.

Problem:-

On publishing the dwg., either as a Gif , VML or SVG output web page from
Visio, every time tried the Hyperlink works but the Link Name is NOT
displayed on mouseover of the Hyperlink ---- instead it displays "Click to
Follow Hyperlink".
(This occurs with webpage viewed in I.E 7 and I.E. 8).
I cannot find any other reports that this is a problem and it surprises me
that I can't find other reports?

Thanks for looking.

Hello Brian,

I think this is intended behaviour as you need some way to differentiate
between clicking on a shape to see it's shape data or clicking to follow a
link/s.

Anyway, the description field is passed through in the data.xml, so I'll
have a look and see if I can come up with a solution for you.

Just to be clear - you want to mouseover each shape and see the link
description and to be able to click on the shape to follow the link?

Best regards

John

Hmmmm. A very clear description of a problem I haven't encountered.

I'll have a play.

Thanks Brian.

John, Hi Thank you, I appreciate your response and to confirm your
interpretation of what I need to do it is as you say i.e.
I need to have small images or flow chart shapes with an inserted Hyperlink
in the Visio Dwg (Hypers usually to a Text Procedure or to a Process Map or
Flow chart ) and for the Hyperlink, the entered 'Link Description Text' that
I enter in the field to appear in the published VML web page output as the
'Link Description Text' when my Users Mouseover the image or shape with the
Hyperlink.
It works perfectly in Visio Prof 2002. My work applications have appx 800 +
Hyperlinks and are meaningless with the Visio Prof 2007 'Click to follow
Hyperlink'.

My view is that Microsoft have yet again made errors in a new release of
Visio as re Web publish as they did similar from 2002 to 2003 re loss of
pointer on hypers in web pages.

I am away on hol now for a week so as to a far distant Island won't probably
get chance to respond to or ack any help or comments for me.

Thanks Brian

John, Hi Yes I had a Great Hol in Phuket.

I have just read your post and looked at your blog posting of a potential
solution -- THANK YOU ---whether it works for me or not --- I have yet to
test out your suggested code change -- I will try it later today or tomorrow
and change code via 'Front Page' Global replace in my test Web on development
Laptop at Home where I have the Visio 2007 Prof Trial version running. I will
let you know either way of the result ---if works then 1 hurdle over and a
second query to follow re a Hyper behaviour in 2007 that does not work the
same as in 2002.

Thanks Brian
