I can't save a file "save as" to my cd

When I am in any office program I can not save my file as to my CD-rw disk.
It says it is read only. I try to take the check mark out of the read only
under properties but it won't let me do that either.

You need a 3rd party burning program that will do packet writing, Some examples - RecordNow from Sonic, Nero from Ahead, Roxio from Roxio.

Because of the way Office handles temp files, and to avoid possible file
corruption, it's never a good idea to Save As to removable media. Instead,
save the file to your hard drive, close the file, and then use Windows
Explorer to copy the file to the CD or other removable media. (Depending on
what version of Windows you're using and how old your CD drive is, you might
need to use a 3rd party application to copy files to the CD.)

I have Nero, Recordnow and Easy Cd creator from Roxio all installed on my
computer. Roxio says I can erase a single file and it also says I can save
as, but the computer will not let me. I think it is a XP setting of some
sort preventing me from doing it. When I used Easy Cd Creator to create a
data disk it saved all my files as read only (just like XP does) and I still
have the same problem as I do with XP. I used Easy CD Creator in my old
computer which had W98 installed and was able to do it no problem. When I
have the same program (updated version) installed on XP it will not let me do
the things I could do before. Even though the help files in the program says
I can.

InCD does not come with Nero, however you can download and use it free if
you own Nero.
InCD allows you to format a CD-RW and use it like a hard drive.
Drawbacks are if you want to use the disks on another machine it has to have
Nero and InCD installed and may have to have the same hardware CD-RW
installed.
It's called UDF packet writing and you might want read up on it by searching
Google or elsewhere.

So you also have 3 different packet writing programs installed also?

I would suggest uninstalling 2 of them to avoid conflict over which controls the optical drive.

And then follow Herb's advice to copy a file to the CD-RW.

I downloaded INCD but it is asking me for a serial number during
installation. Where can I get that? I thought it was a free download?

Check what media you are using CD R or CD R/W, one can be re-written, the
other can't.
