I get a file is not available message in Word 2003 for docs

I just installed Office 2003. When I try to open Wrd docs, I get a "file is
not available" message. When I try to open a ppt file, I get a "can't read"
message. This happens even on newly created docs and ppts.

Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Symantec/Norton AntiVirus.
