I have messed up my own settings . . .

I am just okay on the computer and I have messed up my own
mail settings and can't for the life of me get them back.
Problem 1:
After I read new unread mail in my inbox, it closes it
automatically and sends it to the messages folder on the
tool bar. I don't remember having that tool bar before
and therefore unless I deleted the message altogether, it
just stayed in my inbox showing as "read". I want all my
messages to stay in the inbox until I delete them and not
have to go up to the toolbar to view things that I opened
but didn't reply to. Please help me . . .I'm blonde - LOL!

Problem2:
I downloaded the current version of outlook last week and
ever since I have been getting this pop up that
says "Can't contact LDAP directory server (81)" Any
assistance in this matter would also be appreciated.
