Hi.

I've created a new project plan. One activity is 12 monts (Duration). Later,
I update it and I assign Actual Work = '9mon' (I type '9mon'). Inmediately
after hitting ENTER, projects writes '720 hrs' instead.

Why this? I am using Standard Calendar with no modifications...!

Hi

Check your project defaults. These should be 'Duration is entered in months'
and 'Work is entered in hrs'. You may change it as per your requirement. Go
to Tools > Options > Schedule.

I hope it helps.

9 man-months of WORK (and that's what you're entering if you put 9mon in the
Actual Work field) should be 1440 man-hours. While "man-months" could be
used as a valid unit for work, it is kind of an odd way of measuring and
reporting it. Are you mixing up fields here? Are you sure you didn't mean
to be updating Actual Duration? Are you updating the plan with actual
performance for a task in progress or completed, or are you trying to input
a work estimate as to the amount of effort to be done over the 12 month
duration?

Hola Vanita,

thanks for your help. I reset ActualWork to 0... then changed as You
suggested, but still I type "9mon" as ActualWork, and it changes it back to
720hrs...

Hola Steve,

thanks for your help.

I entered "9mon" under ActualWork, but it changed it back inmediately to
720hrs...

What I have is a task that is, actually, 1 year long, and I've worked 9
months on it... it's 75% (which is ok under %Complete, it shows 75%) but it's
NOT 720hrs... it's 1440 as You say...

It's actual data, even though the task started on 2007 and I've been very
slow on this one... but hours are hours anyway...

I also modified as Vanita said (Tools.Options.Schedule) but no luck.

9 months of DURATION only generates 9 months (1440 man-hours) of WORK if the
person working on the task is doing 8 hours per day on it to the exclusion
of working on anything else. If your resource assigment is 100% then
something is fishy. But if you had other duties on your plate as well as
the task in question so you were working on it at a 50% assignment level,
the 720 man-hours of work is correct for a 1 year task that is 75% Complete,
ie, having spent 9 months Actual Duration. Whenever you are looking at the
relationship of man-hours or work and hours of duration you must take into
account the assignment levels of the resources who are doing the work.
Without looking at resource effort levels, there is no relationship.

Thanks a lot Steve...

something must be fishy, as You say...

I have just one resource all this project, with 100% assignment.

I did a split of the window, to see the task details, and curiously, it says
under Resource Name:
ID:1, Units 100%, Work 960h

Why this 960h???

Duration, of course, says 12mo.

Best regards, and thanks again...

Leo
