importing outlook 2003 contact lists

I have more than one email account set up in Outlook 2003. When I try to
import my contacts list into the new outlook email account, it asks me
(browse) for the location of the file. Where is this file, I've looked under
outlook in program files, and can't find it anywhere.

Why do you believe you need to import anything? All mail accounts will use
the same folders and have access to the same contacts. Describe in detail
what you're doing and what you'd like to do.

I have 3 different email accounts set up under MS Outlook. You have to close
out Outlook, and then open it up again to access a different email address.
My full address book (contacts) is available in the original email address,
but in the 2 new ones I created, there is nothing in the address book when
you open it up.
I'd like to import the address book in the original email account into the 2
new ones.

Then you're talking about mail profiles, not mail accounts. There's no need
to have separate mail profiles for each account. Define all your accounts
in the same mail profile.

My full address book (contacts) is available in the
original email address, but in the 2 new ones I created, there is
nothing in the address book when you open it up.
I'd like to import the address book in the original email account
into the 2 new ones.

Just open the first profile's PST in your other profiles. File>Open>Outlook
Data File.

book (contacts) in my new email account. Not sure what you mean by profile.
Also, I set up a 2nd computer on a network and created an outlook account
with the same email as one of the accounts (profiles?) on the first computer
and want to "import" all the folders and address book info. Still no luck.
Should be the same procedure.

Clicking File>Open>Outlook Data File will bring up a windows browser window.
You then browse to the folder containing the PST you wish to add, select the
PST, and click OK.

A mail profile is a container in the Windows Registry that locates your
various Outlook accounts, data stores, and services. You manipulate a mail
profile in the Mail applet of Control Panel.

Define a mail account within a profile either from the Mail applet in
Control Panel (with the E-mail Accounts button) or with Tools>E-mail
Accounts>Add a new e-mail account in Outlook. You can define multiple
accounts in the same profile that way.

Also, I set up a 2nd computer on a
network and created an outlook account with the same email as one of
the accounts (profiles?) on the first computer and want to "import"
all the folders and address book info.

For a method you can use to transfer your data from one PC to the other, see
this:

or import from a PST. You will lose data and possibly corrupt your mail
profile.

Thank you again very much for your response. Unfortunately, still no luck.
I know exactly where the .pst files (personal folders and subfolders are, but
no luck reimporting or retrieving them.
The link you sent me says to do the two things I've been trying over and
over again, which are the same two you suggested:

During both of these attempts

- File/Open/Outlook Data File. When I do this it just brings in an empty
Personal folders file, not one with all my exported subfolders in it. No
subfolders and no address book. (Contacts)

- Import a .pst file. When I do this it imports the messages from the .pst
file inbox, and all my calendar reminders, but again, nothing from my
personal address book (contacts) or any of my subfolders.

Your words were "nothing happens". Opening a PST and finding it empty is
different than "nothing happens". Since exporting to a PST is usually a bad
idea, how do you know that that PST contains data? Have you used the Inbox
Repair Tool (SCANPST.EXE) just to be sure?

nothing from my personal address book (contacts) or any of my
subfolders.

Describe your EXACT steps. Perhaps there's a detail you're missing.

Well, it finally worked. I was importing the outlook.pst file instead of the
backup.pst file. I figured they were both the same. The personal
folders/subfolders imported into a separate personal folder, but I was able
to drag the subfolders nto the existing personal folder. I didn't realize
you had to actually select the contacts folder also in a separate import
instead of that being directly imported into the address book with all the
personal/subfolders at the same time, so that's fixed now too.

You shouldn't be importing anything. File>Open>Outlook Data File is the
correct approach.
