Inserted columns not saving into project

C

Carrie

A user opened a project from the project server and inserted a column. As
soon as he chooses to insert a column, he gets a message stating:

Edits will not be saved
Any edits made to global enterprise template items are not available during
this session. Make edits in the checked-out enterprise global template to
make them available to all Project Server users.

Can anyone help me with this? I made sure that the project was published.
Did I miss a step?

Thank you in advance

Carrie:

You need to tell the user to customize a local view, not the Enterprise
Gantt chart. An alternative would be for you, the administrator, to add this
column to the Enterprise Gantt Chart for everyone.

Hi Carrie
When you want any field, filter, view, calendar etc to be available across
all the project in the server then it has to be created in the global
template.
Tool-Enterprise Options-Open Enterprise global template

Here you can create a new column and save changes to the global template
Tools-Customize-Enterprise fields

May be ur case the user is trying to insert a new field which will be
available only to him and not globally

thanks and regards

Thank you Gary!

But i'm not quite sure what you mean by local view? I don't want to add
these columns to the Enterprise Gantt Chart, not everyone will be using them.

Also, when I open another project from the Project Server, i'm able to
add/delete columns, save and close, reopen and it's still the same way.

Could he have created it a different way?

Thank you!

Carrie:

The users has an Enterprise view selected in order to get that particular
message. Tell the user to select Gantt Chart, not Enteprise Gantt Chart.
Individual users can change columns in an Enterprise view, but the changes
will not persist. Changes made to local views will persist.

I get this message all the time. Its no big deal - the message appears
whenever you insert a new column or move a column. The global settings
determine which columns appear and even their order. I interpret the "edits
will not be saved" message to mean that the inserted column will be hidden
again or the moved column will return back to its original position the next
time I open the project.

I have inserted multiple columns (usually text) in projects before I do
review them. Then I copy the start, finish, work, duration, etc. data into
these text columns before I make changes to the real columns. The data has
always been saved; I just need to re-open them if I want to see them again.
By the way, if you re-name these columns when you open them (Text1 to Old
Start), the re-name is lost the next time you open them. Try adding the name
in the zero line of the column instead.

Hope this helps
