inserted eps image loses color

Hello

I have created a 125 KB file in Photoshop, (purple object
on a transparent background) and exported it as and .eps
file.

I then tell my Publisher 2000 document to insert that
file. All good on the screen - I see the image and it is
indeed there and it is purple.

But every time I print it the image is "gone". I go
through the troubleshooting guide, rebooted, recreated my
Adobe graphic, recreated my Publisher document etc. and
still can't figure out what I need to do.

I've also downloaded the most recent driver for my Cannon
i850 printer. No change.

thanks for your help!

As my own follow-up, I inserted an image as a .gif and it
is missing too. What am I doing wrong?

In the print dialogue, click advanced print settings, graphics & fonts tabs, untick
"do not print any graphics".

thanks - but when I went through the Publisher
troubleshooting that box wasn't ticked (and still is not).

Do you have any other ideas?

You need a Postscript printer to print at EPS. An i850 does not have
Postscript.

No you don't need a Post Script driver to print .eps images.
What the poster probably needs is an updated printer driver.

Mary,

You are correct. However, non-postscript printers will print only the
preview which is usually low-res.

I usually convert eps images in Corel, so I guess you are probably right, though I
have had some very good results printing directly, even in Publisher. My toon guy
sends all his via eps, they all print well, it depends on the quality of the image in
the first place. The poster couldn't get the color to print, so I imagine it is a
driver.

Mary,

I figured you used Corel. :) A buddy of mine does the same thing and
his eps files always print fine. A PhotoShop eps, even saved with an
8-bit tiff preview, looks like crap.

Mary you do need a Postscript printer to print EPS pictures correctly.

You only get the low resolution PREVIEW in the EPS that will print on a
normal printer.

Hello

Thank you all so much for the sleuthing - but it seems
these aren't bringing me to a solution. It may be helpful
if I re-state some of the details of the problem

1. Mary: I wrote on 7/1 that I inserted the image as
a .gif too (with no sucess). Does having a non-postscript
printer have an effect on printing .gifs too?

2. Regarding "low-res"/preview...I don't even get ANY
output of the image (either the eps. or the .gif). It is
blank!

3. In my original post I mentioned that I have already
downloaded and installed the most recent driver for my
printer i850_98ME_v740. Is there something additional that
you can suggest that I need to install?

thanks very much!

I found this information on the Canon site:
1.. Click the Start button, select Settings, then Printers.
For Windows XP, click Start and select Control Panel - Printers and Other
Hardware - Printers and Faxes.
2.. Select the Canon i850 icon.
3.. pen the File menu and select: Properties if you are running Windows 98 or Me.
Select Printer Preferences if you are running Windows XP or 2000.
4.. The Printer Properties dialog box will open.
5.. Click the Colour Management tab.
6.. Ensure that the Automatic radio button is selected.
7.. If the sRGB Colour Space Profile is listed in the list of profiles currently
associated with the printer, then proceed to step 12.
8.. If the sRGB Color Space Profile is not listed, click the Add button. A new
window will open.
9.. Select the sRGB Colour Space Profile in the Add Profile Association Window and
click the Add button.
10.. The sRGB Colour Space Profile will not be associated with the i850.
11.. Click the Apply button.
12.. Click the Main tab.
13.. Set the Colour Adjustment to Manual and click the Set button. The Manual
Colour Adjustment window will open.
14.. Click the Enable ICM (Internal Colour Matching) check box if no check mark is
present.
15.. Click the Apply button.
16.. Click the OK button. Close all windows. Restart the computer and attempt to
print the image using Canon PhotoRecord. Ensure that you correctly set the paper type
in the program (ex. Photo Paper Pro).
