at work I have powerpoint 03 over a win 2000 system -- I've been inserting
some images as objects and it works fine

at home I have powerpoint 03 over an xp (home ed with sp2) and all I get is

Is there a reason for using Insert > Object? I recommend that you use Insert >
Picture > Picture from File.

BECAUSED IT SEEMED TO WORK ON MY PC AT WORK -- I WAS ABLE TO SEVERAL LAYERS
ON TOP OF A MAP IMAGE - EACH LAYER REPRESENTED A MODE OF TRANSPORTATION -
PORTS / RIVERS / RAIL ROADS / INTERSTATES - AND i WAS ABLE TO HAVE THEM
INSERTED ON A PPT SLIDE IN THE IMAGE SIZE (INCHES W/H) I HAD CREATED THEM ...
THE ONLY PROBLEM I WAS ONCE DISPLAYED I WANTED TO MAKE SOME OF THEM
FAINTER (OR LESS OPAQUE?) -- I WILL TRY YOUR INTSERT PICT FROM FILE
SUGGESTION TOGETHER WITH YOUR SUGGEST ON USING PIXEL SIZE FROM MY POST ON
IMAGE SIZE ... BUT IN THE MEANTIME, I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHY INSERT OBJECT
DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK ON MY HOPE XP MACHINE VS. MY WIN2000 WORK PC! I STILL
WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT POWERPOINT AND THE INSERT OBJECT FUNCTION

I recommend that you use Insert >
Picture > Picture from File.

YES, I WILL TRY .... IF I CAN GET THE IMAGES TO COME IN BASIS A DECENT SIZE
... NOT THE 3 -4 TIMES LARGER THAN THE SLIDE!

thanks yours -- I've looked at this web post and it doesn't help much --
I've not red x problem ... on my xp hope pc the object just doesn't appear
.... just the file name .. when I try and double click on the file name, the
file opens in a file image viewer window! but it doesn't then go to the
slide??? I'm interested in why the difference in the two pc's ... this is
the first time i've seen the win2000 do something well that the xp pc
won't!???
