inserting pictures

When i insert a picture into word, it shows up and i save it. But when i
reopen it, i have to click on the area to get the picture to show up as it
does not show up right away when opened. In my tools/options/view, i have the
drawing box checked and not the picture placeholder box. Can anyone help me?
