Insertion Point Disappears

I have windows 2000 and word 2000. When I open a blank document I have
the insertion point on the screen and it's there when I start typing,
but after I type a line or two it disappears. I have to click on the
document and then it will reappear. Anybody know what's going on, this
is driving me crazy!
