Install & activate copy of Office already registered by someone el

If I buy a legal copy of Office from someone who has already activated and/or
registered it (and is no longer using it), can I subsequently activate and
register the software? If so, is there anything special I need to do?

1. It has to be a retail version, not OEM, otherwise you can't activate.

2. You have to ensure the seller uninstalls the software from his PC. If he
continues to use it, it may automatically continue to get updates/patches
from Microsoft, & Microsoft will notice that the same serial no. is being
used on 2 machines.

3. If you have problems activating online, activate by phone & explain the
situation to the phone representative.
