Can someone please help me…? I currently work for a University in the Provost
office -we are in the middle of conducting a large project but I’m not sure
Microsoft Project is the product we should use. I’m afraid that this program
will be over kill and we could use something much simpler but I don’t know
what that product might be. Here are the basic needs for this project.

1.To create a web-based archive of important data so all involved in this
project can retrieve data.

2.An easy to use interface, as those involved are not all computer savvy.

3.A forum where individuals involved can share data easily.

All involved are in different locations so we need something that is
web-based.

We are not worried about time management or scheduling we just need a forum
to exchange data and archive information.

If someone can please help I’m so confused – this project is getting the
best of me….

Thank You

The stand-alone version won't do this. I believe the client-server
version will.
2.An easy to use interface, as those involved are not all computer savvy.

Project is probably easier than most other scheduling software, but I
wouldn't call it easy.
3.A forum where individuals involved can share data easily.

Not what Project is about.

Time management and scheduling is what Project is about. Sounds like
it's not your solution.

Hope this helps in your world.

It sounds like you need a document-management system with search capability,
which can easily be set up using just a Windows 2K or better server and some
ASPs. You can then put a GIF picture of a schedule on there if you need one,
or embed it in a PowerPoint file so that if a person searches for "schedule"
and that word is in a PowerPoint (or Word, Excel, or HTML page) file, it
will be picked up by the search engine. You could also use MS SharePoint,
but that might be overkill in terms of cost.
Or you could contact (e-mail address removed) and we could set the whole
thing up for you, for nominal fee.

May I suggest you take a look at Primavera for all large projects. The cost
is higher but the difference is justified. Both programs require a learning
curve. I have only used Projects 2000 so I can't give in opinion on newer
releases.

Sal,

Please describe the kinds of data that you want to share. The solution
could be SharePoint but I can't tell from from post.
