Is there a way to not see all the spam

posts. Can anything be done?

I've seen a couple recently; if you're seeing a lot, you'll either
need to ask your newsgroup provider to do a better job of filtering
spam, or set your own filters tighter. (Or get a new newsgroup
provider. :))

Or it may just seem like more than the usual amount to you because
of the drastic reduction in legitimate postings since the removal
of the gateway to Microsoft.

I'm seeing something like 25 spam posts to 1 legitimate post. I'm
looking at this group via a web browser, I'll have to see what I can
do to read/post another way, I guess.

Thanks.

That's really bad. I hardly see any spam.
Some servers have spam filtering (and I suspect it's the case for the
one I'm using).
Have you considered accessing the groups through another usenet server?
(eg: Eternal September).

I know some nntp clients also offer spam filters. That's an option :-\

Help please!

I access this via Google groups - microsoft.public.mac.office.word;
and am now getting digests which ONLY contain spam items... How to I
access the wonderful content that used to be here?!

Google Groups actually mirror the post sent through various nntp
servers throughout the World.
The solution, as I mentioned in my previous post would be 1) accessing
the groups through a usenet server that offers spam filtering or 2) use
a usent server in conjunction with an nntp clients also offers spam
filters.

As Corentin mentioned, if you don't want to see so much spam, you'll
need to stop reading this group via the Google Groups web interface,
which apparently doesn't offer its users spam filtering capabilities.

Alternatively, you may want to switch from this group to Microsoft's
Mactopia website forums. Most of the people who helped answer questions
there have not shown up here since Microsoft cut the connection between
the two groups. (Corentin is an exception, bless him!)

It's really sad that the Mactopia groups are not mirrored on nntp anymore L:-\
The UI on the MacTopia forums leaves a lot to be desired, but as Patty
said, you'll sure have the greatest chances to find answers to your
Office-related questions there,
