is there any way i can change the size/thickness of cursor in wor.

I am showing a person of older years how to use WORD and they are having
difficulty viewing the insertion point. and keeping track of it. Is there
any way this can be changed to a larger, more defined item.

In Control Panel | Accessibility Options, on the Display tab, under Cursor
Options, there is a setting for the width of the blinking cursor (as well as
the blink rate).

There is a minor bug in Word that sometimes causes the cursor to shrink.
Zooming the display to 500 and back to the preferred size will fix that.
