Is Works compatible with Word

I have microsoft works 7.0 and i have just purchased microsoft office xp
students edition and i want to know if you can convert the works word
processing documents into a Word document?

Open Word.
Click on the Open Icon.
At the bottom of the Open Windows there is a File of Type entry. Click on
the down-arrow and scroll down to and select the Works 6.0 and 7.0 *wps
entry. If you do not find one, run setup again and install the converter
for Works 6/7.

After you open the document, you can save it as a Word document.
