issues with adjusting resource allocations in task

Have an issue with a task that has mulitple resources. This project is baselined and as the project is progressed I decided to add another task to beak down work being performed. For one of the resources when the task was fixed work and the schedule for the resource was changed (in the resource schedule view ) the work changed for the resource anyway. Also although there were 140 hrs remaining for 5 weeks it was calculating 320% units. when I changed the units to 100% it moved the date out 3 additional weeks (for a total of 8 weeks) to accomplish the 140 hrs of remaining work. If the task is fixed work and the resource schedule date is changed it should calculate the units, instead it was changing the work and zeroing out the rem work although there was 5 weeks left. When I changed the work back it would change back to 320%
I am not understanding how the calculaiton is working, seems like it should be simple work, units, duration formula but it is doing some strange stuff and not making sense

Any light on what is really happening Would be appreciated.
