Keeping tracked changes when copying multiple files to a single document

I have a manual that is worked on by several people. For this reason
the manual is made up of many individual files. Any changes that are
made are tracked using track changes. A PDF version of the manual is
required, which shows all the tracked changes (insertions and
deletions). It is much easier to create the PDF from a single word
document - table of contents, cross references, page numbers are all
much easier to do with a correctly set up word document. However, to
create the single word document, I would have to paste the text from
the individual files into the main document. When I do this, and track
changes is on, everything is marked as a change. If track changes is
off, then no changes are marked. How can I keep track of changes for
the single word document while still allowing users to modify
individual files? Using Master Documents is something that I gather
should not be used! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Derek

Hi Derek

Turn *off* track changes in your donor document. Turn *off* track changes in
your recipient document. Copy and paste, and the tracked changes will be
pasted into the recipient document.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Shauna, that's great.

I got it wrong initially because track changes was off in the
recipient document and "Highlight changes on screen" was also off.
After turning the highlight changes option on, it works fine.

Thanks,
Derek
