Large files in Publisher

I have a ten-page file, heavy with graphics; it takes a long time to Load or
Save. I want to break it into two smaller files, but there seems to be no
easy way to do it. After using Select All and Copy, for example, it doesn't
Paste items back properly. Any suggestions?

Any chance you are using Pub 2000?

I'd save the original file as file1.pub and file2.pub. Then I go into
file1.pub and delete pages 6 thru 10. Save it. Open file2.pub. Delete pages
1 thru 5. Save it. You're finished.

In addition to Mary and JoAnn's reply...if you are using Publisher 2000, I
would recommend upgrading to Publisher 2003, which has addressed the large
file size issue. Publisher 2003 reduces the file size by up to 90% because
this version retains image compression.

Yes, Publisher has at long last overcome this well known issue. I find it
almost beyond belief that Microsoft failed to address this for so long.

I am using Pub 2002/SP3. I took a 31MB file and deleted everything, so that
I am now left with one blank page. It is now "only" 24MB. I looked at
279368 and tried to follow its directions, but the Design Object has no Extra
Content tab. The closest it comes to this is a Your Objects tab, which
reports that "This publication has no saved objects." What further steps
can I take to discover what's taking up all the space, or to remove these
things? I'd like to eventually apply the process to the original file.

Thanks.

Dear H & Mary -- I am also having the same problem. I am using Pub 2003. I
have a quick reference guide that has 123 pages with graphics the size of the
document is 72,503 MB. I deleted everything except 17 pages but the document
size is STILL 71,881 MB. I found your message and looked under Objects >
Design Gallery Object but I have only 3 tabs, Objects by Category, Objects by
Design, and My Objects. I looked at any "options" buttons but could not find
a tab called "Extra Content".

I have a total of 6 QRGs with this problem -- any other ideas? It would seem
this is a big problem for folks like me who keep updating/revising the same
publications -- have they come up with a "patch"?

Thanks for your help and wise advise.

Miss P
