Limited Functionality

MS Project 2003, Standard. I have limited access to the toolbars. Formatting,
Menu Bar and Task Pane are the only ones I can use. A gentleman on this board
suggested that I may not be activated. In checking this out I find that on my
help menu I don't have the choice to 'Activate Product' so I can't even find
out if I'm activated or not. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, detected and
repaired but same result. Any ideas?

It's definitely an activation issue. When the time to activate expires,
Office products go to a "reduced functionality mode' which looks exactly
like what you describe. But that mode is triggered in other ways as well
.... if your copy has previously been activated on one computer and you
attempt to activate a second installation of it on another, it will fail
since the license is essentially "buy one full price copy for each computer
you want to run it on" (well, 2 computers actually since you can install on
a desktop plus a laptop). If the activation attempt fails, it immediately
goes into the 'reduced functionality' mode even if the time limit has not
yet expired. The only solution now is to call Microsoft's telephone
activation 800 number, explain the situation to them, and let them step you
through manually entering the activation keys. (Your copy is legal, is it
not?)

Thanks for your reply Steve. I contacted the activation centre and it turns
out that I am activated. I was transferred to tech support and after numerous
transfers and one dropped call I was put in touch with a technician. What I
had to do was rename the global.mpt files and then do a "detect and repair".
The global.mpt files were regenerated (hope this makes sense) and the problem
was resolved. I then deleted the renamed global.mpt files. Apparently this
problem has cropped up before for them.

Cheers
